The number of patients diagnosed with severe coronary artery disease is increasing because of improved survival rates and an aging population. Despite continued developments and improvements in treatments that facilitate myocardial revascularization, a substantial proportion of these patients do not achieve complete revascularization and continue to experience refractory angina despite optimal medical therapy (OMT).
